  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2.5 litres warm water
  • 35cm x 35cm square white 14HPI aida

After washing the fabric (and the test swatch), I prepared the dye bath and immersed the fabric. I stirred the dye bath for the first few minutes and then every 15 minutes up to an hour and a half to ensure even absorption of the dye – I think this worked quite well! The variation in colour you see in the photograph is due to light where I folded the fabric before I photographed it – sorry about that!

I dyed this for Jay because he wants to try stitching Chris Hiett’s “Leopard Cub” design from DMC, and the pattern calls for pale blue 14-count aida. You know me: why pay through the nose for a piece of coloured fabric that I can dye myself?!

I really am pleased with the results, and will certainly try evenly dying more pieces of fabric in the future. That’s not to say I’m going to give up on the marbled effect though!
